Jane Birkin
British actress and singer ; born 14 December 1946 in London
Jane Birkin is the daughter of lieutenant-commander David Birkin and the actress Judy Campbell. Her brother is the movie director Andrew Birkin. Jane Birkin was the wife of composer John Barry, of singer and composer Serge Gainsbourg and partner of movie director Jacques Doillon, each of them fathered one of her daughters (Kate Barry, Charlotte Gainsbourg und Lou Doillon). Since the end of the 1960s Jane Birkin lives in France (Bretagne, next to Saint Pabu).
About Serge Gainsbourg she said: "Quand j'ai rencontré Serge en 68 sur le tournage du film Slogan, on m'a dit qui il était parce qu'en Angleterre personne ne le connaissait, j'ai voulu en savoir plus et j'ai foncé dans la première librairie pour m'acheter un recueil de ses textes. Et avec un dictionnaire, j'ai essayé de me rendre compte de la beauté et de la difficulté de ses chansons. Une que j'avais adorée c'était En relisant ta lettre que j'ai mis un temps fou à déchiffrer avant d'en comprendre toute la drôlerie, parce que Serge écrit sur plusieurs dimensions. D'un coup j'ai compris le grand talent de manipulateur de la langue de ce mec avec qui j'étais en train de tourner tout simplement comme acteur..."
