Schweizerisch-amerikanische Folk-, Schlager- und Popsängerin ; geboren 1950 in New York (New York, USA) als Susan Schell
Sue Schell kam als Siebenjährige mit ihrer Familie aus den USA in die Schweiz, wo sie in Bern aufwuchs und eine kaufmännische Lehre machte. 1968 gründete sie mit Peter Reber und Marcel Dietrich das bis 1981 bestehende Gesangs-Trio Peter, Sue und Marc, mit dem sie u. a. viermal am Grand Prix Eurovisoon de la Chanson teilnahm. Als Sängerin besitzt Sue Schell eine besonders markante, hohe und klare Kehlkopfstimme.
1981 begann sie eine Solokarriere, die mit der Single Simple things (1982) allerdings bereits ihren Höhepunkt erreichte. Als sich der Erfolg nach dem zweiten Album 1984 nicht wie erhofft einstellte, wurde sie fallengelassen und veröffentlichte erst 1987 zusammen mit Jutta Wurm einen dritten Versuch. Danach zog sie sich aus dem Showgeschäft zurück und suchte "die Auseinandersetzung mit Heilung und innerem Wachstum", übersiedelte nach Berlin, wo sie sich sozial engagierte und für AIDS-Kranke einsetzte.
Ende der 1990er Jahre kehrte sie in die Schweiz zurück. Heute führt sie ein neues Leben. "Darin nehmen buddhistische Meditation und Yoga einen wichtigen Platz ein", sagte sie 2007 der Zeitung Blick. "Zwei, drei Monate im Jahr lebe und arbeite ich in einem Zen-buddhistischen Kloster in Deutschland." Ab und zu singt sie besinnliche, geistliche und esoterische Lieder an Seminaren, Gottesdiensten oder in Krankenzimmern, oft mit Kollegin Jutta Wurm.
